Transcript: How To Change Your Life In 5 Seconds

Again, this is the transcript from a recording of a Facebook Live.

Hi everyone. This is Tracey Hausel from traceyhausel.com. I wanted to welcome you to my living room in Wilmington, Delaware, about 20 minutes south of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

When I do my live on my page instead of my profile, I'm using OBS and it doesn't tell you when you go live, so you're kind of guessing until you start seeing yourself move.

In the beginning, you're just standing still and I need to mute myself. All right, so I muted myself. I always forget to do that, sorry. All right.

Today, I want to talk about actually a podcast I listened to yesterday on the way home from seeing my student, my former student that I mentor. It was by Eric Worre. He was interviewing Mel Robbins about her new book Five Seconds to Success, [5 Second Rule is the name of the book] I think the name of the book is called.

In the description here, I've put a link to that video on Eric's Facebook page that essentially he just downloads and put it on the podcast and those kind of things. I tend to listen to podcasts when I'm in the car.

It's something that actually really does have psychological research and scientific research behind it. The point is, and I want to go to his page, he'll make sure I explain it correctly.

What it is is that when you've got to do something and you don't want to do it more likely than not, you start out with five seconds. Five, four, three, two, one, and then you go do whatever it is. What it does is it bridges the gap between knowing what you should do and then getting off your tushy and doing it.

The moment you have the instinct, this is how it's described. The moment you have the instinct to act on a goal, one of those I really should do this moments, one of those things that there's no reason why you can't do it now, but you really don't want to, count five, four, three, two, one.

Problem is most people is that they stop and they think. Thinking really can get you into trouble a lot of the times, when you think too much, so they look for excuses not to do it so they don't do it.

It could be doubt, fear, hesitation, low confidence, all of those things can hurt you and cause you not to do what you need to do. Of course, she was mainly talking about it through network marketing, like when we're talking to people and such.

It's with anything. She said started with [inaudible 00:03:33], I think it's where she said she heard it and then she decided one day life was really stunk for her. She decided one day that she was just going to do what she heard was like the rocket, she was going to rocket out of bed the next morning.

When the alarm went off or whatever, she said five, four, three, two, one, out of bed and she got out of bed. What that does is it creates, what's the phrase or terminology I'm looking for? It creates a [inaudible 00:04:07] to scratch a record. It stops you.

The reason why you're doing this [the counting] backwards is because it does take more focus to count backwards than it does to count forward, so that you're not giving yourself a chance to think of all those excuses. It goes with pushing yourself out of things that's not necessarily in your character to do, helping you go out of your comfort zone.
